Waiting Isn’t Wasted
Have you ever felt like your prayers were echoing in an empty room, waiting for an answer that just doesn’t seem to come? I’ve been there, many times. Waiting on God can be one of the hardest things we do as believers, especially when the prayers we’re lifting up are deeply personal and tied to our heart’s deepest desires. They can bring days of grief, pain, and sorrow. Anyone else learning to be patient? Me too.
We bring so many prayers to God that seem to take forever to be answered. Here are just a few examples that might resonate with you:
Being Single. Praying for a life partner when it feels like everyone around you is getting married.
Health Healing. Asking God for healing from a long-term illness or pain.
Salvation. Praying for the salvation of a loved one who seems far from God.
Confusion. Seeking guidance for a major life decision, only to feel stuck in uncertainty and zero clarity.
Infertility. Desperately asking for the blessing of a child, while each month brings another round of disappointment and failure.
I know this wait all too well. After becoming a young widow at just 24 years old, I spent 8 years praying and hoping to meet someone to share my life with. It was a long and difficult season, but God, in His timing, brought me my husband. That experience taught me so much about trusting God’s timing, even when it feels like nothing is happening.
But the waiting hasn’t stopped there. My husband and I have been praying for 6 years to grow our family, longing to hold a baby in our arms. Infertility has been an unexpected journey, one filled with tears, hope, disappointment, and endless prayers. Yet, through it all, I’ve clung to the truth that God hears every single prayer and that He is faithful, even in the waiting. I know he loves me and will provide. The Lord put that want and need in my heart for a reason.
In moments when the waiting feels unbearable, I find comfort in Scripture. Two passages that have carried me through these seasons are:
Psalm 27:14: "Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!"
Isaiah 40:31: "But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."
These verses remind me that waiting is not wasted time. God is at work in ways we can’t see, nor understand, preparing us for the answers to our prayers. It’s in the waiting that our faith is strengthened, our character refined, and our hope anchored in Christ. Because in the hard times, we grow.
If you’re in a season of waiting, whether it’s for a partner, healing, guidance, or the blessing of a child, know that you’re not alone. God sees you, He hears your prayers, and He is with you in the waiting. Let’s trust that His timing is perfect, even when it doesn’t align with our own. Hold on to hope, keep praying, and believe that God’s plans for you are good plans that are all going to be worth the wait friend.
